World Mental Health Day

​I hope a year hasn't gone by since the last time you thought about your mental health. 
This year I think it's very important to think about how we treat other's mental health. 

During the year there have been many instances where people have had their mental health affected because people who should know better didn't think before they reacted, Naomi Osaka comes to mind. 

So, I'm going to set you a challenge. 

If you have an instance where you want to comment on social media after someone has posted something you don't agree with, I want you to stop and think before you respond. Then ask yourself some questions.

  • Am I over reacting?
  • Is what I'm going to say offensive?
  • If I don't think it's offensive will others find it offensive?
  • How will it affect the person who posted?
  • How will it affect anyone else who reads it?
  • What will my comment say about my own mental health?
  • Have I read the post properly, in full and understood why the person who posted it did so?
  • What is their mental health like?
  • Is this just a rant that won't really change anything but just suggest I'm a bully? 
  • Is it all about Me?

There are plenty more questions you could ask I'm sure, but just asking these questions will help slow your thinking down so you react rationally instead of just reacting. No one likes to read or see abuse online, especially when it's not justified.
