“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” ~Steve Furtick
We all have certain triggers that can cause our confidence to take a sudden nosedive. For some, it’s a trip to the gym. If you’re self-conscious of your body, watching fit people strut their stuff in their tightest fitting gym clothes likely has you over analyzing your every body part. For others, it may be a certain individual—a family member, friend, or enemy that, for whatever reason, leaves them with the dreaded feeling that they just aren’t enough. We all know the gut wrenching feeling that arises when we see or hear something that immediately has us second guessing our appearance, personality, or skill set. Continue reading. Most often happiness is not far off, just a little hidden. Here's how to uncover it.
Everyone would like to be happy. Some find happiness more easily than others. I like to consider myself a happy person. Certainly, I am much happier today than when I was younger. Much of the angst and insecurity of my youth is gone, and I now enjoy life and am surprised and amused constantly by little things that make me smile and feel warm. Being happier may require years of therapy for some, but for most, a simple change in perspective will do it. The following redirection of your focus will help you uncover much happiness that you may not see in the heat of the day. Continue reading. Originally posted on Inc.com. There seems to be constant pressure to get everything done at record speeds, a desire to go from point A to B to C as quickly as possible. This need for more and constantly being in a hurry takes us out of the present moment. It takes us out of the love and gratitude that we have access to right here and right now.
Think about nature. A flower blossoms when it's ready to blossom. A leaf falls from the branch when it is ready to fall. There is a time and place for the natural process to take place. Think about how you can apply this into your life today. Here are 10 reasons it's time to slow down today: 1. You can hear your intuition. Intuition is a powerful force. It's where our truth and authentic self are exposed. We are the only ones with access to this voice. By slowing down, this voice has room to come to the surface. The more we block it off by constant distraction, the more we invalidate ourselves. Continue reading. Originally posted on Mind Body Green. Experts including comedian Ruby Wax, author Gretchen Rubin, and LSE professor Paul Dolan tell you how to find happiness in everyday life
Ruby Wax is a comedian and the author of 'Sane New World: Taming the Mind’ Don’t chase happiness. It’s important to accept that it is usually fleeting. A lot of us spend our lives trying to repeat or recreate the moments when we were happiest. If you do get to experience real happiness, enjoy it, savour it, appreciate it for what it is rather than trying to extend it in a deliberate way. If you spend a lot of time trying to chase the circumstances that made you feel that way, you are bound to feel let down and will miss opportunities to appreciate – or even notice – the best parts of the present. "Our minds influence the key activity of the brain, which then influences everything; perception, cognition, thoughts and feelings, personal relationships; they’re all a projection of you." The human brain is truly a marvel. It communicates at incredible speeds, constantly makes connections, develops into your 40’s, processes and stores massive amounts of information, and so much more. The following 5 things you must know about your mind may amaze you even further: Continue reading. When living in such a fast paced world, we tend to encounter a few pessimists here-and-there. When we pass by a negative person on the street we have the privilege to leave them behind, along with the dark cloud that hovers over their head. Unfortunately, the pessimist that brings you down isn’t always the random bad tempered person in public; sometimes it’s a best-friend, an in-law, or even a parent. It can be difficult to maintain a healthy relationship with these types of people, and if a positive relationship is something you desire, you’ll need to make sure their energy doesn’t affect you so much that you feel drained yourself. Remember these 3 tips to keep your own inner wellspring of positivity full around negative, draining people. Continue reading. Originally posted on Power of Positivity. Not only does your posture influence how others see you, it can also make you happier, science says.
At least since your very first job interview you've probably been aware that your body language has a huge impact on how others see you. Standing tall, having a firm handshake, and holding your head high will help you win trust and get the gig, a parent or career counsellor no doubt informed you. And, of course, they were right. Expert after expert confirms that your body language sends powerful signals to others, but what perhaps they didn't know is that your posture also sends powerful signals to you as well. So says findings recently published in the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry. Continue reading. Originally posted on Inc.com. Wouldn't it be great if you could debug your brain as though it were bad code? We might not be able to reprogram ourselves, but we can use the principles of debugging to help ourselves build better habits. Here's how to debug your brain.
Our brains are the most bug ridden pieces of junk since Internet Explorer. To replicate one common bug, try telling your brain to "go to the gym." Most brains will respond by updating their Facebook status and watching cat videos. This is not the desired behavior. Fortunately I've developed a fix. Let me just explain how the whole human brain works first. This Code Is a Mess Looking at our brain, it's clear it was developed by a team of ten thousand monkeys sitting at keyboards. You know, like Windows 8. The brain is event-driven, which is to say it does almost nothing until an event occurs, and then it responds to the event. Your hand gets hot, you pull it back. Your stomach rumbles, you look for food. Continue reading. Originally posted on Lifehacker. Some of us are just existing and not living. Wouldn’t you rather set the world on fire and do something that challenged you, caused you to get up out of bed each morning actually looking forward to the day ahead, do something about that dream you’ve always had, start that business you’ve been talking about for years, or write that book?
We’ve all got something we’d love to do. It would be fantastic to say to your grandchildren, I gave it my best shot, instead of saying ‘I sat in and watched TV a lot and didn’t really do much with my life. It’s easy to get caught in the trap of doing nothing, which actually drains your energy more than doing something; anything. Continue reading. Originally posted on Change Your Thoughts Change Your Life. In the last six years, I've made significant changes in my life. I left a corporate career after 12 years in advertising and marketing. I changed cities once and homes no fewer than four times. I remarried and was blessed with another healthy baby. I lost my mom to ALS, which launched me on a voracious path of spirituality.
I've become brave enough to share my writing with the world, which is a cathartic and healing process for me. I've devoted my life to yoga, which brings me great joy, health and happiness. I'm about to open my own yoga studio. I have a rewarding travel schedule that allows me to connect with souls near and far. None of this has been handed to me. I've endured rejection, judgment, doubt, fear, and a serious lack of resources. Through it all, passion has burned within me and driven me for the sake of a few simple objectives: manifesting the divine, connecting with others, creating mass healing and leaving a trail of infinite and certain joy.
